Obituary:
George Leon Johnson, Sr., 68, of Sherwood, Ark., departed this life on May 26, 2022. Our hearts are heavy with his absence. George was born December 10, 1953, to Dorothy and Rohaila Johnson Jr. in Ocala, Fla. After graduating from Forest High School in 1971, he went on to study Business and Industry and graduated from Florida A&M University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Fla. He later worked as a Senior Personnel Analyst for the State of Arkansas where he retired after 41 years of service. George moved to Arkansas in 1979, met his loving wife, Larance McGehee Johnson, and entered holy matrimony on April 29, 1983. In addition to his marriage, he was most proud of his children, Shenika, Shenèe, and George, Jr. He was a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and enjoyed wearing his special designed Alpha caps and his FAMU shirts.

George lived a fulfilling life as a husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, in-law, and friend. He loved taking walks, tending to the yard, watching the news and sports, and spending the holidays with family. In his later years, he grew in his relationship and belief in Christ through studying and listening to the Word of God. George enjoyed people and his sense of humor kept friends and family laughing and smiling.

George is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Melvin L. Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife, Larance M. Johnson; children, Shenika Johnson Glenn, Shenèe Johnson Holloway both of Duluth, Ga., George L. Johnson Jr. (Crystal) of Tallahassee, Fla., and his grandchildren, Sydney Joi Glenn, Alaylah Janèe Holloway, Zaire Fernanders-Jackson; siblings, Rohalia Johnson III (Dorothy) of Lawton, Okla., Jacquelyn Woods of Tallahassee, Fla., Mary Franklin and Gloria Franklin both of Chicago, Illinois, Mark Johnson (Larry) of Palm Bay, Fla., Barbara Love, James Johnson (Bonnie), Jeannette Johnson, and Raymond Johnson all of Ocala, Fla., the McGehee family including his mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law, and a host of beautiful nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, 11 a.m., at the Rest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, Ark. The service is entrusted to Willis Funeral Home of McGehee, Ark.
